Inspired by the Kukuyu Ndome shield this pillow brings a feminine energy to an otherwise masculine practice. The making of the Ndome is a coming-of-age ritual for boys to men; by carving a piece of bark into a shield they are transformed into men.  I used traditionally feminine craft techniques to do my own version of a Ndome by using basket and textile weavings as my guide.
